The Realm of Low Expectations
February 20, 2026
As a startup investor, I've seen many careers develop over the last 20 years and one of the worst patterns I see is: low expectations.
The news of your funding can attract a lot of eyeballs to your product, so it's a big opportunity. Unfortunately, a lot of founders get some of the basics wrong. Here's a simple plan to make your funding announcement successful:
Start planning a month before your announcement. This is enough time for a journalist intro, or to pay a PR firm to help or simply plan a standard social media announcement.
1 week before, ask the company's investors, stakeholders and friends if they would be willing to help on announcement day. This is also the time to do any interviews with journalists, confirm all the copy and finalize media assets.
When the posts go live, make sure all your volunteers are ready to amplify with reposts, comments and likes. Follow up with any stragglers and be sure to respond to comments, even the trolls. This will maximize your reach.
Best of luck out there.
