The Realm of Low Expectations
February 20, 2026
As a startup investor, I've seen many careers develop over the last 20 years and one of the worst patterns I see is: low expectations.
Today, we’re talking about being productive in December. The holiday season is challenging when it comes to getting things done, so what’s realistic for the last month of the year?
You’re still a startup, so we need to make progress. Prioritize the achievable annual goals, planning around just 2 full work weeks this month.
Starting the new year strong means planning ahead now. Set your annual goals — then break them down into quarterly and monthly goals. Building the list of potential goals and getting consensus across the team, will take time, so you need to start now to be ready for January.
From Dec 18 until New Year, the vast majority of the tech world will be offline. It’s ok for you to take time as well. As a founder, looking after yourself is part of your job.
Best of luck out there.
