Startup Sales — 5 Common Sales Mistakes by Founders
August 12, 2025
Founders are responsible for the first sales a startup will make. For many founders, this is one of their very first experiences of sales and mistakes are often made.
Today, we’re talking about which investors you should prioritize when raising your seed round.
When you’re fundraising you will get initial interest from a wide range of different investors. Angels, Micro VCs, Seed Funds and Large VCs — at the beginning you should aim to do at least 10 meetings within each category of investor.
For each of these groups, track how many expressed immediate excitement. That means they wanted to move to a 2nd meeting with more of their colleagues right away, without you needing to push it. Ideally, we want at least 40% of the investors from a category to show excitement.
Now you know which investor types are most excited about your company, it’s best to focus on those categories for a few weeks. This targeted approach will maximize your efficiency and increase your chances of closing new investors.
Best of luck out there.
