The 2 Things VCs Really Want
January 3, 2025
When you take a multi-million dollar check from a VC, they’re really only looking for 1 of 2 outcomes. This can cause some very strange behavior in the future.
Today, we’re talking about trends in AI for 2024. Here’s what I’m expecting to see over the next year:
We’ve already seen plenty of high-profile lawsuits and API changes around the data used to train AI. I expect we will see a lot of progress on identifying what data was used and when, by a model. I also think we’ll discover that lots of media is copied from somewhere.
Most of the popular use cases for AI like ChatGPT, rely on you starting the conversation with a question. I expect we will soon see assistants making suggestions based on environmental context, without needing to be asked.
Although I doubt the most powerful models will be completely open, I do think that open-source distribution will accelerate in 2024. Mirroring the Android mobile operating system’s broader popularity over Apple’s walled garden; it’s easiest to distribute free and I expect similar patterns in the AI market.
Best of luck out there.
